    Brother Warrior

    Brother Warrior

By: Kate Wolf © Another Sundown Music

Gentle warrior With your heart like gold and a rainbow in your eyes Brave companion Do you see a world shining in the skies With your body dancing like an arrow Spreading joy beneath your feet And your hands that wave like tall grass In the wind as you speak With the shyness of a small child And the wisdom of a sage I tell you now, there is no reason to be afraid. Brother warrior There are none of us that walk this path alone Spirit healer It’s the only life that we have ever known. I see your smile in the sunlight I hear your songs in the rain And I hold you here inside me Feel your love and know your pain. At this time when the earth is waking To the dawn of another age I tell you now, there is no reason to be afraid. We are crying for a vision That all living things can share And those who care Are with us everywhere…

The Flower That Shattered The Stone

    4:17
The Flower That Shattered The Stone

By: Joe Henry and John Jarvis © Cool Hand Music

The earth is our mother Just turning around With her trees in the forest And roots underground Our father above us whose sigh is the wind Paint us a rainbow without any end. (refrain) As the river runs freely The mountain does rise Let me touch with my fingers And see with my eyes In the hearts of the children A pure love still grows Like a bright star in heaven That lights our way home Like the flower that shattered the stone. A sparrow finds freedom beholding the sun In the infinite beauty We’re all joined in one I reach out before me and look to the sky Did I hear someone whisper Did something pass by (Repeat Refrain)

    Songlines

    5:37
    Songlines

By: Cindy Mangsen © Compass Rose Music

They walked and sang the earth and sky They named the blades of grass Spoke softly as they passed Their footsteps shaped the darkest lakes They breathed the ocean tides Left mountains in their stride Their words were woven into song They named the names, they passed along The ancient story of the earth Songlines… We walk and sing the names they gave We name the grains of sand We whisper to the land Raising voices to the sky We celebrate the earth As she was sung at birth The spirit lives within the song In naming names, in passing on The stories told in sacred rhyme Songlines… And if the songlines should be broken Man and earth would be estranged If the dreamtime be forgotten Who would sing the wind and rain? As caretakers who guard the flame In sacred trust we sing the names Our lives are short, our time is long We are her voice, she is our song. We walk and sing the earth and sky We name the blades of grass Speak softly as we pass…

    Only Make Believe

    5:12
    Only Make Believe

By: Russell Walden © Russell Walden Music

Once upon a time There were castles and kings Fairy tales and horses with wings Once upon a time there were witches and gnomes Beauties and beasts And gingerbread homes (Refrain) But you know It’s only make believe It’s only make believe Just imagination running wild And unless you’re still a child It’s only make believe Once upon a time There was magic untold Turning princes to frogs And straw into gold Once upon a time there were dragons to slay Kingdoms to win and gods to obey (Repeat Refrain) What’s become of the dragon slayers Did they claim the holy grail? Ad as for the wizards and the sooth sayers Now they tell a new tale Once upon a time In a kingdom afar On a beautiful sphere Circling a star Everyone in time turned to the sun Finally saw the world as one… And you know, it isn’t make believe It isn’t make believe It’s just a vision running wild A prayer for every child It’s not only make believe…

    5:37
It’s In Every One Of Us

By: David Pomeranc © Upward Spiral Music (ASCAP)

It’s in every one of us To be wise Find your heart Open up both your eyes We can all know everything Without ever knowing why It’s in every one of us By and by… It’s in every one of us I just remembered It’s like I’ve been sleeping 40 years I’m not awake as I can be But my seeing’s better I can see through the tears I’ve been realizing that I bought this ticket And I’m watching only half of the show But there is scenery and lights And a cast of thousands Who all know What I know And it’s good that it’s so (Repeat first verse)

    On A Clear Day

By: Alan Lerner and Frederick Loewe © Chappell and Co.

On a clear day Rise and look around you And you’ll see who you are On a clear day How it will astound you That the glow of your being Outshines every star You’ll feel part of Every mountain sea and shore You can hear from far and near A world you’ve never heard before And on the clear day On that clear day You can see forever and ever more.

    Sometimes It’s Easy

    3:36
    Sometimes It’s Easy

By: Hoyt Axton © Irving Music

I used to laugh a lot That’s why my face is wrinkled That’s why my cheeks are chipped By sandy winds Sometimes it’s easy Sometimes it’s not so easy Sometimes I feel like I can’t go on Then I remember What really makes it easy Being with you And when I’m singing my song Everybody’s got to have’em some happies Everybody’s got to have ‘em some happies Everybody’s got to have’em some happies Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo…

This album offers chants and songs with universal spiritual themes, drawn from various traditions as well as contemporary songwriters. Each of these songs has been a treasure in my own life. I offer them in hopes that they might touch the heart and feed the soul for others, as they have for me.

For my second CD, I collected songs that have been inspiring and uplifting to me on my life’s journey. The songs I chose for this collection affirm the presence of the divine in all things, my love of the Earth, my deep appreciation of that which is magical and mysterious in this world, and the preciousness of finding humor in the bittersweet experiences of life.

As with my Songs For The Inner Child, I’ve been touched and gratified by the feedback I’ve received from people who have been moved by Bread For The Journey. I’ve heard that it appeals to adults of all ages, as well as children, making it the kind of collection that families can enjoy together.

I’ve heard from clergy of many denominations who use the songs as a source of inspiration in their services and retreats. In addition, the songs have been played by hospice and hospital workers as a source of comfort for the sick and dying.

It continues to be my great pleasure to offer music that can touch the heart and feed the soul. If you’re moved to give Bread For The Journey a listen, I hope you’ll find something in the collection to nourish and inspire you, whatever your journey may be.

Reviews
  • Lloyd Barde Productions

After reaching the hearts of many listeners with Songs For The Inner Child, Shaina Noll returns with a sensitive, joyous and reverent collection of songs on her superb second album, Bread For The Journey. Just as each of these songs has touched her deeply, they will easily become “food for your soul” as well.

Included are songs by Kate Wolf, Hoyt Axton, Cindy Mangsen, David Pomeranz–It’s In Everyone of Us— and musical partner and co-producer for the project, Russell Walden. There are also well-known chants like Listen, Listen, Listen and God of Beauty. Sensitive instrumentation, especially from Walden’s piano and keyboards, and a host of harmony vocalists tie it together perfectly. Built in love, recorded with a gentle touch, a gift for all who listen.

Shaina’s newest CD is richer, fuller, deeper. As a long time fan of Songs for the Inner Child, I was eager to hear her second release, Bread for the Journey.

The moods on this CD are much more diverse, ranging from the very powerful and soothing Brother Warrior to some playful, upbeat songs. (It did take me a little adjusting, as the mood on her first CD is more single note.) My most surprising favorite is On a Clear Day. This is a song I had heard many times, but never actually listened to! Shaina’s version carries so beautifully the energy and message of this song: “On a clear day…you can see who you really are..” The production values here are much improved, and for me this increase in professional sound quality only adds to the synchrony of Shaina’s lovely voice and the heart-felt songs.

On her second release, Shaina Noll has compiled ten beautiful, inspiring and uplifting songs. Her love for her listeners is palpable throughout each piece. As Shaina has said, these ten songs are pieces which helped her on her own personal journey, and I am sure they will nurture and inspire anyone who takes the time to listen. Just open your heart, relax, and allow the positive messages and majestic power of these songs to course through you.

Each song contains beautiful orchestrations, exceedingly powerful lyrics, and messages of love, healing and unity. They teach us to honor mother earth, all her inhabitants, and ourselves. Shaina has a warm, rich and highly expressive voice sent straight from Heaven, and sure to sooth your soul. The variety of material here is fantastic, from the reflective and encouraging Brother Warrior, to the achingly lovely Only Make Believe, and the delightfully soulful final track, Sometimes It’s Easy, every song presented is a gem, sparkling with vibrancy, intensity and power.

This is music that simply must be heard, felt, and lived…this is one musical journey you truly should not miss!!! Allow Shaina and this exceptional music to guide, encourage and inspire you. I am a better person for having listened.
